***LASTING PERIODS / STORAGE LIMITATIONS: (for original SmartCap®)
Acrylic Caulk:  
  • paintable latex, easy to use and most commonly utilized, easy to exit, and takes a long period of time to solidify. (long lasting)
Silicone Caulk:  
  • cannot be painted, thicker in substance and more difficult to work with, extremely slow to exit, and solidifies very quickly.
                                           (***If you really don't need to use silicone, don't. Choose acrylic***)
Adhesives:  
  • to be used within a short period of time after opening, slower to exit, and solidifies very quickly.
Rubber Caulk (butyl):   
  • more difficult to work with, slower to exit, and solidifies very quickly. 

During our testing periods, we've experimented with various types of caulking as stated above, and others. Of course, results fluctuated dependent on the caulking and brand ... see below.
Silicone
  • dependent on the brand, lasted under 6 months...because of its composition.
Acrylic
  • lasted over 36 months without any solidification commencement at all.
Adhesives
  • lasted less than 3 months. Glues, no issues. ***Use the SmartCap® PRO for over 2+ yrs safe storage***
***LASTING PERIODS / STORAGE LIMITATIONS: (SC - PRO)***
 For Adhesives:  Using the new SC-PRO will allow you:
  •   Safe airtight storage for over 2+ years!
  •   No waste, no mess....Patent Pending!
 Reusable:
  •   Let adhesive completely dry in SC-PRO black spout, push out hardened product.                                 
STORAGE:
  • All caulking type tubes should be stored in a heated room, away from a direct heating or cooling source, out of direct sunlight, with SmartCap® on tight.
  • We have clearly distinguished silicone as a rapid solidifier (some brands quicker than others).
  • We recommend for tubes of silicone to follow this procedure: ***Take a 3.5" drill bit and drill a larger hole in the membrane located at the bottom of exit spout (adjacent to the tube), then insert the SmartCap® for storage. Also, if possible, open the tube and squeeze out at least the caulking contained in the entire exit spout area with fresh caulking every 2-5 months (again, dependent on the brand), until your ready to utilize the tube....you may or may not have to perform this. We've found a small clump of silicone (the size of a pea), sometimes commences to form in the exit spout area, therefore creating a small potential hazard. 
  • If you find a small blockage occurring, use your hand drill with a 3.5" bit and drill into open spout, breaking up the hazard, pull directly out and this will remove the blockage, now creating a path. May need to repeat. Then reinsert your SmartCap®.

RESPONSIBILITIES / DISCLAIMER:

We do not guarantee previously opened tubes that have been stored using other such items as nails, tape, screws, marrettes, etc, from drying out. This also excludes previously stored caulking that's been exposed to freezing temperatures or extreme heat conditions. These tubes may have potentially commenced the dry-out process, or a breakdown in its lasting qualities, therefore resulting in an uncontrollable outcome. 

We have only tested newly opened tubes of caulking and adhesives, and utilized only the SmartCap® and SC PRO within these testing periods of experimentation. We accept no responsibility for misused, improperly stored, aged, expired or faulty caulking type tubes, or any injuries incurred from preparation prior to usage, during usage or after usage.
